MGO Premiere Beta/MG Saga Vol. 2 DVD

The word in Metal Gear world recently has been engrossed in the new "Metal Gear Online" Beta Premiere. Among the billions of MGS fans, some were lucky enough to score themselves those hard-to-find codes for the MGO premiere. After berating the Gamestop folks to find out if they are participating in the pre-program deal, I was doubtful in the hopes of grabbing my hands on the golden code. The email that I, and many others, received didn't elevate my hopes:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting GameSt op.com.

Unfortunately the manufacturer has not communicated any beta information
for this title to us yet. As soon as they do we will post this on our
site. Please note that all free bonus event codes are in limited supply
from the manufacturer an d we cannot guarantee that all customers will
receive this.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to respond to this
email.

Best Regards,
Customer Service Agent

But I'm glad I was mistaken. A package I hadn't expected to arrive, made its debut appearance in my mailbox on Saturday. So as I type, I await patiently as the 741MB file downloads and installs.

WoW Tauren Hunter Figure

I vividly remember the first time I picked up "Warcraft: Orcs & Humans" way back in the day. And ever since "World of Warcraft" came out, I vowed never to pick up the MMORPG knowing that if I did I would forever be affixed to my computer. As of today, I am still steadfast in this stance (believe me it's not as easy as it may seem), but being the avid collector that I am, I definitely know a phenomenal figure when I see one.

Due out this December is this ultra-detailed deluxe figure of Tauren Hunter. I am sure that any WoW fan will be wanting this fiery piece of art.

Kino no Tabi Novel

The first novel, released back in 2006, was a huge hit and fans have been anxiously waiting for the second volume ever since. Unfortunately, our wishes may never be granted.

According to Anime Nation and other forum entries trickling in, TOKYOPOP has stated that due to a “licensing issue,” the English translated "Kino’s Journey" (Kino no Tabi) novels may be considered out of print effective immediately. Furthermore, the continuing English language release of the Scrapped Princess novels has been delayed indefinitely.

Though I am glad that I was able to pick up the first volume, many are sure to feel frustrated with the turn of events. I am sure my pre-order for the second novel (placed many many months ago) will be cancelled soon, unless by some twist of fate, TOKYOPOP's licensing issues will be resolved. Wishful thinking, I know.

Ghost in the Shell 3D Live Action

DreamWorks comes out on top, passing both Universal and Sony, for licensing rights to adapt Masamune Shirow's "Ghost in the Shell" cyber-police manga into a 3D live-action film. The story of an elite paramilitary unit in future Japan has already been adapted into three animated films and two television anime series.

DreamWorks has released the second animated Ghost in the Shell film, "Innocence," in North America. DreamWorks also released "Millennium Actress" and produced "Transformers," another live-action science-fiction film with Japanese roots. DreamWorks' co-founder Steven Spielberg expressed his enthusiasm for the project stating that "Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite stories. It's a genre that has arrived, and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks." [Source: ANN]

MPD-Psycho Vol. 4

After a little delay with some printing problems, DH makes good in delivering a high quality, uncut and uncensored manga (though 2 pages were less than perfect). The mayhem continues in "MPD-Psycho" Volume 4. The story takes a different approach, this time focusing on the one-eyed reporter Toguchi, as he embraces his dark side.

Feeling the weight of personal and professional rejection, and the horrors that haunt him, he resolves to pull of a violent "performance art show" in order to get the widespread attention he feels he deserves. Unfortunately, this involves killing a lot of people, transforming the happy-go-lucky guerrilla journalist into a modern monster.

Crazed Toguchi also makes some sensitive information public, enraging Zenitsu, another unbalanced villain with a knack for murder and a resistance to pain. Kazuhiko Amamiya arrives at the scene a little too late, but Amamiya-our favorite multiple personality detective-feels that there's some hope yet, and he risks his life to negotiate with Toguchi.

Otsuka does another spectacular and solid job. Entertaining, disturbing, and innovative, the mystery behind "Lucy" phenomenon continues to unravel giving Amamiya more clues and even more questions. The Otsuka and Tajima pair don't seem to be losing any steam, and their intricate attention to detail screams perfection on every frame. The horror continues in Volume 5 set to hit shelves this June.

Soul Eater Episode 1

"Soul Eater" has something for everyone. Combining a little bit of "Bleach," "Gurren Lagann," "Naruto," "Death Note," and a dash of "One Piece," BONES studio whips out an entertaining experience all with beautiful and fluid animation. The use of solid colors was a nice move for this particular series.

The story line is rather simple, you get the gist of it from the first episode alone. Students at the Shinigami Technical School must train by collecting 99 evil souls and 1 witch soul. Each of the students have a weapon companion who feeds on these vanquished souls. Once the 100 souls are eaten, the human weapon evolves to a death scythe, a status given to full-fledged Shinigami.
Animation, character, and basic plot line will get you hooked on "Soul Eater." The only aspect that seemed awkward was it's poor voice actors. I have to say I probably would have gone with a different voice for almost all the characters presented on the first episode. Nevertheless, that alone isn't enough to weigh it down. As a special bonus, T.M. Revolution provides an awesome OP. "Soul Eater" is one anime that everyone should give a shot.

MGS4 Battle of the Artbox

Rumors, speculations, and clarifications are swirling around a game that isn't even available yet -- MGS4. We've already known this from the start, but this is going to be, or already is, the biggest release I have seen in ages. The latest discussion focus on what players will actually be getting on the big day, or what they won't.

The biggest U.S. news would have to be in regards to the MGS4 bundle. What was originally supposed to be a Japan-exclusive release, is no more. In addition to the MGS4 PS3 standard edition bundle, Konami will also be selling (an extremely limited amount) of MGS4 PS3 limited edition bundle, yes, equipped with the "Steel" colored PS3. Konami stresses that this will be very, very limited, and this comes to no surprise. And just another quick FYI, the US MGS4 Limited Edition has become a GameStop exclusive. I don't think this was the best move, but you can just imagine how glad I am that my MGS4 LE pre-order (via GameStop) was not compromised.

Fans have been mining the web, collaborating with others, and reassessing the entire MGS storyline for any and all information MGS4-related. This, of course, does not exclude cover art. We know by now that places like the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Australia, for example, tend to get varying game cover art, and this is no exception.

When I first saw images of the MGS4 US box release, I was a little displeased, especially with images from Japan to compare to. The Old Snake cover art is animated beautifully and captures the visual theme of the game, but seemed to be disjointed from the other MGS games.

And seeing the cool and crisp art work adorned on Europe's MGS4 box, didn't make it easier to stomach the US cover art.

But then a light came, and granted me a sigh of relief when I saw the wondrous MGS4 US box art for the Limited Edition release. The color palette, art sketch feel, gives a nice blend of old and new. A refreshing complement to the MGS Saga.

Which version do you like? No doubt, as I type, more MGS4 news and goodies are brewing right around the corner. So I'm sure we'll be here yet again. Kojima we love you!!!

Condemned 2: Bloodshot

Finally got a chance to sit down and play "Condemned 2: Bloodshot" today, released on March 18th for the PS3, and also available on the XBox 360.

The sequel delivers a quick blow of horror and gore, in the bloodiest way -- definitely not a game for the faint of heart and most certainly not for kids. Visually stunning and disturbing, "Condemned 2" makes the right moves to becoming a very nice match to its amazing predecessor. The soundtrack is also just as perfect as ever.

The story picks up several months after the first game ended. Ethan Thomas, our unlikely hero, has fallen on hard times since leaving his job as an SCU agent, and constantly finds himself battling demons both real and imaginary. Ethan unwillingly finds himself thrown back into the line of action.

Minus the pointless multi-player online features and the less than perfect gun action, this first-person melee combat game is sure to please, if not scare the crap out of you. Last I checked, the game demo is available to download off the Playstation Store. It does a decent job giving you a taste of the creep-fest you are about to enter.

Sephiroth Epic Battle

By now, you have probably already seen the hugely popular "Crisis Core FFVII" battle scene between Sephiroth, Genesis, and Angeal, either before the game's release or during game play. No doubt that once you see this video, you'll be wanting to see it again and again. That is the point where I'm at.

WARNING: While this scene isn't really a spoiler, if you haven't seen the video yet and are currently playing "Crisis Core," you may want to skip this. The video comes at the perfect time, during game play. So to the few that I imagine fit in this category, consider yourself fore-warned. For the rest of you, indulge once more. This is the Japanese version of course (providing the perfect voices), but you can find the English version (though pretty decent thankfully) on GameTrailers.com.

Blassreiter Episode 1

Some use the power for what they believe as justice...
Some lose themselves in the immensity of their powers and abuse them...
Some use their power to realize their ambitions...
Some use it for the purpose of revenge...

Each uses their powers to survive, and to fulfill their individual purposes. However, using the special power comes with a price: their human minds gradually begin to debilitate...

The burdens and dualities of power are explored and depict a life of agony, solitude, and suffering in "Blassreiter." In a world where humans live seemingly normal lives, there are those that transform into violent-hungry creatures with an outbreak of demonic blood. And in the middle of it all stands one man able to control his cursed demonic form, Joseph Jobson, who oddly enough, makes a mere 5-10 second appearance in episode one.

Absolutely stunning visuals and mature storyline make "Blassreiter" a very attractive anime series, similar to "Strait Jacket," for example. But unlike "Strait Jacket" and even "The Tower of Druaga," episode one of "Blassreiter" falls a little short, not by much, but definitely a little lower than my original expectations. Nevertheless, it may take more than one episode the develop a deep storyline. A foundation has been set, and I look forward to seeing what else is in store.

The overlying theme and story is intuitive and enticing enough to keep fans of this genre watching. Watch the first episode, now for free, on BOST TV, Crunchyroll, and YouTube.

The Tower of Druaga Episode 1

Probably one of the most anticipated anime titles this spring season, "The Tower of Druaga: the Aegis of Urux," premieres today in a quite special way. It appears that Gonzo has teamed up with several online anime distributors to bring the first ever worldwide simultaneous release of "The Tower of Druaga" and later "Blassreiter." Episode one of "The Tower of Druaga" is now available, in its original japanese format with added english subititles, on YouTube, Cruchyroll, and BOST TV.

Drawing its inspiration from the hugely popular 1980s arcade games of the same name, GONZO and a team of today’s top creators have joined forces to write a new chapter in the epic Babylonian Castle Saga! The legendary Tower of Druaga is resurrected eighty years after the hero Gilgamesh has taken it down. In order to destroy the evil deity Druaga, the Kingdom of Uruk dispatches its troops to the tower, but the expedition repeatedly fails in its efforts. A young man named Jil who has been blessed by the goddess Ishtar, is awarded a set of brilliant golden armour and a sword from Gilgamesh as tokens to defeat the maumet. Sent off by the cheering crowd, our young hero Jil confidently sets out to confront the evil deity inhabiting the tower. Helped by great friends such as the archer Neeba and a Mage called Fatina, he heads for the uppermost floor of the Tower!

Hidden within the exterior of a serious adventure series, lies a lighthearted fantasy game and comedy. For those who play MMORPG and RPGs will find an even deeper connection and will probably be those who laugh the loudest in this series. Even the most simplistic connotations spread throughout the episode proves effective with flying colors. First impressions of this series are great. With its nice animation and a potentially concrete and solid story line, "The Tower of Druaga" should exceed everyone's initial expectations. The OP and ED tracks seem to be the perfect match and hint at the duality of the game, perhaps. The world inside MMORPGs and the world outside it. Time management is a plus as the anime accomplishes a lot in the first episode alone. You will definitely want to know what happens next, but at the same time get a quick read on all the characters and leave with a good idea on the title's direction.

Check out the trailer below, or better yet, watch the first episode in the links provided above.

Mokke

This is a story about two sisters: Shizuru is a high school student who is able to see ghosts while her younger sister, Mizuki, is haunted by these apparitions. Frustrated by their abilities, their parents decided to entrust the sisters into the care of their grandparents who live in the countryside. As they adapt to life in the countryside, Shizuru and Mizuki begin to learn about the importance of coexisting nature with these apparitions.

"Mokke" is a nice and pleasant yet sad story that has probably stayed below radar as far a hype and popularity go. It's a solid series that definitely deserves more recognition, or at least more time in the spotlight. The animation and color palette is rather simple, but don't be dissuaded. This trait blends nicely with the lighthearted yet serious plot. While episode one starts out a bit slow, the series picks up and delivers.

X JAPAN in Paris

The first of X JAPAN's three reunion concerts took place on Friday, March 28. Before the second concert on Saturday, the band held an urgent press conference to announce that they have finalized plans for a concert performance in Paris on July 5, 2008.

The conference was held at Tokyo Dome, the site of X JAPAN's first concerts in over a decade. Tokyograph notes that Japan Expo will also be held in Paris from July 3 to July 6...possible site of the concert, maybe? Yoshiki says the band hopes to draw in a crowd of about 20,000 people. I couldn't make it to Tokyo Dome this time, and I only wish this concert is a possibility for me.

Update (4/3/2008): X JAPAN has just announced, in a April 3 press conference, that it will perform its first live concert in the U.S. at New York City's Madison Square Garden on September 13.

FFVII: Crisis Core

FFVII...the game that shook the gaming industry and has made the FF series and its fanbase what it is today. The little feat of simply transitioning from 2D sprites to 3D marked the start of the RPG revolution. After over a decade, "FFVII: Crisis Core," the prequel to the original RPG classic materializes. Undoubtedly, all FF fans will be picking up this game and with good reason.
"Crisis Core" is set seven years prior to the events of the first FFVII, the Shinra Company is rapidly increasing its influence through its monopoly on mako energy and military might, and is becoming ever powerful. The game focuses primarily on Zack, SOLDIER 2nd class, aspiring for 1st, and his interactions with three other principle characters: Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth. Other familiar characters make an appearance, but generally speaking, these four SOLDIER operatives are the highlight of this story.

The story is well developed and maintains the legacy of FFVII quite beautifully. With all the pieces in place, it is hard not to feel nostalgic as a familiar soundtrack plays in the background, as you walk through the lobby of Shinra Headquarters, and as you meet some old faces. Gameplay, for lack of a better word, is perfect for the PSP and on-the-go gaming. "Crisis Core" offers action and realtime battle, similar to the "Kingdom Hearts" battle system. While the side missions may be on the heavy side, it is appropriate for a handheld game. One of the most unique aspect of its battle mechanics is the DMW, or Digital Mind Wave, which enhances the real-time battle system. "Crisis Core" brings innovation to the table and all of its extra elements work to its advantage -- one of which is its use of emails. There is also so much potential for the individual RPG player, especially with the nice amount of leveling up potential.

Loading times can occasionally be a minute too long, but nevertheless it is quite impressive, especially with its beautiful presentation. The cut scenes are of the highest caliber with "Advent Children" quality. The details and expressions are also something to be gawked at. It's no wonder that Square Enix is the leading studio in this realm of computer-generated cinematics.

Yet another fantastic PSP title. First "Chains of Olympus," now "Crisis Core." We're 2 for 2!

Square Enix Members

The SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS Site officially went live on March 24th. While there isn't a plethora of goodies at the moment, there are some nice features already building up. The site is currently featuring a Q&A with Crisis Core director Hajime Tabata, soundtrack giveaways and some web parts including a Zack Squat Test and Shinra ID generator. Also featured is a creator's roundtable from "The World Ends with You." There's a section for videos and downloads such as wallpapers, and a blog updated daily. Registration is free, and here's hoping that SQUARE ENIX North America will resemble the Japanese counterpart.

Blade of the Immortal

After so many years since its manga debut, Hiroaki Samura's "Blade of the Immortal" (Mugen-no-Jūnin) will be getting its television anime premiere this summer in Japan.

Set to play the main character Manji, a ronin swordsman condemned to immortality unless he kills a thousand evil men to compensate for the good men he killed, is Tomozaku Seki (who also played as Van in Escaflowne). Noir's director Mashimo & Bee Train studio are set to animate the new title. ANN has the entire casting listed.

One of the major elements that brings "Blade of the Immortal" above all others is its beautiful "raw" art form. I was curious to see how the unique drawings will be translated on the screen. But the picture from the official website eased my qualms and shows something quite promising.

Saint Seiya Life-Size Figure

The March 19 opening reception for Bandai's Tamashii Nation 2008 toy celebration featured a life-size, wearable replica of the "Gold Cloth" armor from "Saint Seiya" manga and anime. The 180-centimeter-tall, 24-carat-gold-chromed plastic replica weighs 20 to 30 kilograms (about 40 to 70 pounds). The armor is wearable, but it does not transform like the fictional original in creator Masami Kurumada's stories. The event runs from March 20 to March 23 at Tokyo's Akihabara UDX building. MGS Mobile

Konami brought me good news and bad news at the same time this morning. It seems that "Metal Gear Solid Mobile" is now available for only $10.99 ($4.99 monthly). So why should I be disappointed? Maybe because it is available exclusive to Verizon Wireless customers of which I am not...arghh! Therefore, I have no review unless my carrier is deemed worthy in the long run. In the mean time, I'll just sulk in the corner.

The Twelve Kingdoms: Sea of Wind, Volume 2

Almost one year has passed since the first of seven books of Fuyumi Ono's "The Twelve Kingdoms" was released. And finally, the second installment, "Sea of Wind," arrives. Once again, translation is done exceptionally well and Ono's stylist writing is preserved. By the end of the first book, after a roller coaster adventure in a strange land, Yoko begins to accept her role in one of the Twelve Kingdoms. The second book takes us 3 years before "Sea of Shadow," and follows a young boy, named Taiki. Like Yoko, Taiki is taken to a whole new world and given their true purpose. Yet Yoko and Taiki's role is quite different. Taiki must take a crash course on what it is to be a kirin, with noone able to give him any details, all the while having a whole kingdom depending on him.

Though the experience may have been short-lived, as I finished the book in a couple of hours, it was constantly riveting throughout, and had incredible lasting appeal. Even days after I closed the book, the ending moments still captivated me. Ono definitely knows how to keep such a vast and boundless story going, connected and utterly precise. Volume 2's "happy ending" is bittersweet as we all know that tragedy is surely coming just around the corner. Even with this knowledge, we're still left with more questions than answers. I'm sure anyone who reads this will be itching for the third volume. I know I am.

If you've been around me at all this week, you'll know what currently ails me. As I've stated so emphatically, I want ALL the Kotobukiya "Armored Core" Figures. And staring at the beautiful pictures really isn't helping me. Let the drool fest begin. Anyone feel like buying these figures for your friendly blogger? As you can no doubt tell, each figure is stunning in it of itself. Here is a definite case where pictures speak louder than words. Shhh...the figures...they emanate beauty.

GOW: Chains of Olympus

My review is coming a little late this time, but I figure better late than never...

By now, we all know the tales of Kratos, the Ghost of Sparta. After being deceived into ending the lives of his wife and daughter, Kratos vowed revenge and denounced his service to Ares. But long before his battle with Ares, Kratos sought absolution from his past sins by pledging himself as a champion to the Gods. These brutal crusades in the name of Olympus became legendary, and it is this 10 years of servitude that is recounted in his first handheld appearance called "God of War: Chains of Olympus." In his plunge into darkness, Kratos must face the most feared creatures of Greek Mythology and forced to choose between his own personal redemption and saving the ancient world from certain destruction.

With two absolutely all-around spectacular GOW games, it was hard to fathom a smooth console to handheld transition at a quality level we've experienced thus far, but Ready at Dawn proved they had the chops to kick it out of the ball park. They deliver with uber perfection. The most obvious feature of the game is its outstanding technical and artistic visuals and combat. At a visual standpoint, this has got to be the best PSP game in existence. Without a doubt, I can think of no other game that matches the true visual potential of the PSP system. As far as combat goes and very impressive enough, almost no difference exists between the PS2 and PSP versions. Once you pick up the PSP, you're hands will immediately adjust and you'll feel as though you're playing on the PS2. Tight control and nice combos make up for lack of various weapons. Sound quality is sensational -- headphones are a MUST!!

The only cons I would bring up is its short gameplay -- a mere seven or eight hours worth. Though nothing new was brought to the table, "Chains of Olympus" fits perfectly snug in the GOW franchise. Fewer weapons, puzzles, and boss fights, but more action, blood, and gore. With absolutely no hesitation, this is one title that should be in everyone's library. Instantly thrown into battle, "Chains of Olympus" keeps the adrenaline pumping and gameplay moving.

Death Note: Another Note

L is back, this time in a novel spin-off entitled, "Death Note: Another Note - The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases." Written by Nisio Isin, "Another Note" serves as a sort of prequel to the "Death Note" manga series, pre-Kira. I admit I was a bit hesitant at the concept -- mainly on its execution, but was pleasantly surprised and entertained.

Mello narrates the story of L's first encounter with FBI agent Naomi Misora and delves into the inner workings of L. The story centers and stems from Wammy's House, Watari's orphanage, and the whole system of geniuses such as L, Mello, and Near. Following a detective-mystery format, the novel combines what we know from the manga and adapts it quite well to form a concrete recording of a serial murder.. Though it isn't perfect by any means, there is enough there, not to mention a big, hard-hitting twist in the end, that definitely captures the essence of L and the series. It makes a nice addition to the hit series and I'm glad I picked it up.

A quick note, I feel is worth mentioning: the illustrations, both on the cover and scattered inside, are absolutely sensational.

What's Next for Kojima?

The long awaited MGS4 will bring an end to the renowned saga of Solid Snake and the Metal Gear games. But no need to fret, genius Hideo Kojima is hard at work developing the concept for his new game outside the Metal Gear universe. Konami president Fumiaki Tanaka, could not reveal anything more at this point and stated that a formal announcement won't be coming this year, which in all sincerity makes perfect sense.

So what of the MGS movie? ComingSoon.net (via Japanator), is reporting that site reps recently spoke to Metal Gear Solid movie producer Michael De Luca who dropped word on a possible scriptwriter and director -- Kurt Wimmer. His past works include Equilibrium and Ultraviolet. Yeah, sorry, but I'm not sure if I'm impressed. But I'm definitely hoping that with Hideo Kojima executive producing the Metal Gear movie, the saga will be preserved.

As the Fruits Basket saga continues, the relationship between Tohru and Kyo becomes increasingly complicated, especially since most of the members of the Zodiac seem to look down on him. Tohru comes to the realization that if she wants to save Kyo, she'll have to create some sort of trigger to break his curse. But what, if anything, can cure Kyo?

Guinness World Records: Guitar Hero Feature

To mark the launch of the first Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008 book, the best players of "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock" gathered in New York City to break some records (Thanks for the heads up Yuna aka Crystal!). Among the records smashed was the "Highest Score for a Single Song" on GHIII with an incredible 840,647-point completion of the infamous DragonForce song, "Through the Fire and Flames," the toughest song on the game, played on Expert Mode, 97%.

In related news, Play N Trade will be holding a nation-wide GHIII contest this Saturday, March 14th. The grand prize is $2000!!!... in store credit. Runner up gets a PS3, Guitar Hero III bundle, and $500, while third place gets a Guitar Hero III bundle and $200. I find these types of prizes (excluding the first prize) very interesting because chances are those entering the contest probably already own a PS3 and/or GHIII. Nevertheless, "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" have definitely brought about a big phenomenon in gaming.

Resurrection

In case you've been wondering what hole I've crawled into with the lack of updates and all, don't despair. I've been stuck with the flu (along with my boss) for what seems like ages and have only recently become sane again (or as sane as I ever was). That was one hell of a week, but I'm back, more or less. So be on the look out for more entries heading your way, and thanks for your patience!

Even More MGS4 Updates

It seems like MGS4 was all the video game world talked about a couple of months ago when more concrete dates, trailers, and demos were being released like clockwork. Though the hype has dimmed down for a little while, as gamers patiently await for the game everyone's been waiting for, it sure enough has escalated once more, as MGS4 rumors and updates stream in by the hour. So as you guessed, here's more info. to swim in.

In the latest Kojima Productions Report podcast, it seems that MGS4 is pushing the limits of the new Blu-ray technology. Producer Ryan Payton announces that MGS4 won't have voice over tracks for other languages. Because of disc space, the Japanese version won't have an English language option and you guessed it, North American and European version won't have Japanese voice over. Before you fret, Payton goes on to state that the voice over work in MGS4 is the best it's ever been. When the time comes, if you're really itching for the Japanese VO, remember that the PS3 is region-free, so you can grab the Japanese version if you so desire.

Speaking of time, we've already heard from Konami that MGS4 is due for a simultaneous worldwide release. Thankfully enough, this hasn't changed. The penultimate date is June 12th! A day when all the major characters reunite and remaining mysteries unveiled. This will be the first time ever for Konami to simultaneously release the Metal Gear series throughout the world.

And remember when I first mentioned the pre-order special? Well Konami confirms that:
Beginning April 2008, consumers that pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will receive the Metal Gear Saga 2.0 DVD, containing a Prologue that recaps the Metal Gear franchise, a 20th Anniversary retrospective, character bios for Big Boss, Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, and Solid Snake, plus a collection of international trailers of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This pre-order package also contains an insert with a download code and special instructions for accessing the Metal Gear Online beta test when it goes live in late April. This special pre-order package will only be available while supplies last.
Viva pre-orders! That's it for now...

Trigun Movie

According to Moon Phase Diary (via Heisei Democracy) the 14th volume of "Trigun Maximum" revealed word that a new "Trigun" animated film is in the works, care of Madhouse. Aren't you glad I didn't say live action?? Anyways, it will feature an original story developed by manga author Yasuhiro Nightow and director Nishimura Satoshi who collaborated with Nightow on the "Trigun" TV series. The script will be helmed by veteran anime writer Kobayashi Yasuko.

And here is the kicker, the tagline of this film is: “Vash vs. Wolfwood?! Old fans are quite familiar with the duo. I've been expecting this fight, like many others, since I first watched the anime many years ago. The movie is due out sometime in 2009, so we will probably, at the earliest, see it in 2010, unless you're lucky enough to be in Japan.

Wonder Festival 2008 Winter

Wonder Festival 2008 Winter, the most prestigious figure event series, was held last Sunday and sadly I was not in attendance, yet again. From the looks of all the coverage and photos, breath-taking and wallet crunching figures were not in short stock. If you care to indulge, be fore-warned -- there's a lot of beautiful going on. For example, Range Murata never disappoints, check out the figure on the left from the Super Comic Series, "Robot." Asuka (Evangelion) and Robin (White Hunter Robin) also make a stunning appearance, among many others.
